What is it about?

Targeting energy metabolism pathways holds substantial promise as a treatment strategy for cancer. Clinical investigations have demonstrated that patients receiving nutritional therapy based on specific biophysical parameters before and during standard cancer treatment exhibit significantly better weight maintenance. This article reviews nutritional therapy strategies that target tumor cells, aiming to provide on cancer treatment.

Why is it important?

Various types of nutrients induce cancer cell death by inhibiting different enzymes in the glycolysis or TCA cycle. Many nutrients discussed in this article have shown significant preclinical benefits for patients with cancer. In addition, some nutrients have demonstrated promising properties in clinical trials by inhibiting tumor growth through modulation of the tumor microenvironment.

Perspectives

Nutritional therapy targeting energy metabolism pathways holds great potential as a cost-effective strategy for the treatment of cancer. Additionally, further investigation is warranted to elucidate its underlying mechanisms and accurately evaluate and determine its complementary options for specific tumors in humans.
