What is it about?
During exercise, many factors change that have an impact on the pulmonary arterial pressure. The main factor is cardiac output that increases 3- to 5-fold as compared to rest. But also PAWP increases and this adds to the cardiac output-induced increase in pulmonary arterial pressure. Many scientists believe that these changes in pulmonary arterial pressure are strongly attenuated by a decrease in pulmonary vascular resisitance during exercise. This article argues why this factor is not important in the supine position and how it contributes to the changes in upright exercise.
