Why is it important?
This study affirms an encouraging improvement in sludge dewaterability when chitosan and metal cations are used in the dual-conditioning of sludge to reduce the polymer demand, as well as to address concerns about polymer toxicity.
Perspectives
The dual-conditioning effect is interesting and further studies should look into the application in high-shear dewatering operations, e.g., centrifugation.
