What is it about?

Combining testing procedures in cancer screening can help reach good predictive values, even when each test alone does not have high sensitivity or/and specificity. This approach is especially helpful when the gold standard tests are invasive procedures, with high risks and/or low compliance on the patients' side. This papers presents a validated combination scheme and strategy, analyzing the predictive values as function of prevalence.

Why is it important?

Our analysis shows how combining less resource challenging and less invasive tests is worthwhile in usual screening scenarios, with good and reliable predictive values.

Perspectives

This joint project aimed at evaluating the feasibility of a cancer screening program was a fruitful professional experience for me and I do hope our paper will help other teams who face similar dilemmas in choosing the best strategy.
