What is it about?

We track a group of people diagnosed to have glaucoma. Overtime, as they are on chronic glaucoma medications, there is a lot of deleterious effect on the ocular surface, resulting in the development of dry eye. As the use of artificial tears is increased over the years, this forms part of the burden of glaucoma.

Why is it important?

This study shows that compared to control group of people such as diabetics, glaucoma patients started on chronic glaucoma medications have a higher rate of usage of artificial tears for dry eye.

Perspectives

The management of dry eye in chronic and newly diagnosed patients with glaucoma should receive more attention by physicians.
