What is it about?
Parents, especially mothers, caring for a child with autism have been reported to show high levels of stress compared to parents of typically developing children. This study aims to explore what parents go through in their lives while caring for a child with autism in the childhood period, as well as the adaptations that took place during this period of the child's life.

Why is it important?
Our findings identify the common beliefs and concerns that parents face when caring for a child with autism from the time of diagnosis and include their experience with healthcare services and health professionals. Thus, findings can inform healthcare practices, ensuring that healthcare provided is family-centred, addressing the needs of the whole family and not just the child alone.
