What is it about?
This study examines the influence of the Moroccan Journal of Chemistry on the field of chemical research in Morocco. We analyzed the research published by the journal between 2013 and 2021 and compared it to broader trends in Moroccan chemical research during the same period. Using data from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Web of Science (WoS), we identified patterns of research collaboration and common scientific themes. Our findings reveal how this journal supports the development of local research and encourages partnerships with countries in Asia and Africa.

This research sheds light on the role of a country-specific open-access journal in shaping the scientific landscape within a focused field. The Moroccan Journal of Chemistry serves as a critical platform for fostering research collaboration both within Morocco and with other regions, particularly Asia and Africa. By highlighting the journal’s alignment with national research priorities, our work illustrates the journal’s contribution to advancing chemical research, promoting new collaborations, and helping Moroccan scientists showcase their work on an international stage. This has implications for other emerging research communities globally.

From my perspective, this publication highlights the unique value that smaller, country-focused journals like the Moroccan Journal of Chemistry bring to the research community. By offering a platform for local researchers to collaborate, exchange ideas, and present emerging trends, the journal not only nurtures scientific talent in Morocco but also builds international connections. It’s exciting to see how such a journal can act as a springboard for scientific dialogue between Morocco and other regions, especially as the world moves toward more interdisciplinary and collaborative research efforts.
