What is it about?

The aim of this study is to develop a unique and Time-Dependent field based methodology to handle wellbore instability.

Why is it important?

Good hole-cleaning operation is one of the major factors for the successful drilling operation. On the other hand, poor hole-cleaning causes several drilling related problems such as high torque and drag, drill string sticking and poor hydraulics. As a result, this leads to higher operational costs for the industry. In this study we present the results on most parameters that affect cuttings transport in vertical wells.

Perspectives

To better manage wellbore instability problems in the field an in-depth understanding of the fundamental physics and chemistry of drilling fluid/shale interaction can be critical as they take place down hole.
