Intertrochanteric hip fractures are fixed with either nails or plates. This study compares clinical and radiographic parameters between the two types of implants.

Perspectives

The two implant types perform equally with regards to clinical outcomes. The significantly higher cost of the nails is not associated with better function. Intertrochantric fractures should be stabilised with the more economical DHS plate.
