What is it about?
Lung contusions often result from chest injuries caused by blunt trauma and can lead to severe complications if not diagnosed and treated quickly. This study compared the effectiveness of lung ultrasound and CT scans in detecting these injuries within the first 24 hours of ICU admission. The findings showed that lung ultrasound is highly accurate, with a sensitivity of 93.6% and a specificity of 94.1%. Although CT scans are still the most reliable diagnostic tool, ultrasound is a valuable alternative, especially in critically ill patients where CT may not be readily available.
