What is it about?

The Multi-dimensional Review of Uruguay embodies a different approach to development relying on a careful diagnosis of national conditions to make policy recommendations that are tailored to the unique characteristics of each country. They also build on the wealth of policy experience from OECD and regional partners, many of which themselves have undergone political and economic transition and, in the case of Uruguay, benefit from the growing body of OECD's work on Latin America.

Why is it important?

The MDCR is timely, as Uruguay comes from a recent period of economic prosperity and faces today new challenges, many of them similar to those of OECD countries. By taking stock of Uruguay's well-being outcomes, the diagnosis aims at identifying areas for improvement in several dimensions of the country's economic and social development. While the recommendations are intended primarily to support public policy action, they may be useful for academics, the private sector and civil society.
