What is it about?

Abusive Manager is a major obstacle in the peaceful and efficient work of employees. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of perceptions abusive management of health professionals on workplace loneliness and organizational cynicism. Health professionals working in a public hospital in Sivas (N=540) were included in this study, data were obtained using a survey. In order to test the hypothesis of correlation and regression analysis were performed. In this study found positive correlations between dimensions of workplace loneliness and abusive management and between dimensions of organizational cynicism. Abusive management have the effect on cognitive, affective and behavioral cynicism (all sizes of cynicism) and abusive management was found to influence of emotional loneliness. As a result abusive management were found to be effective on workplace loneliness and organizational cynicism. Workplace loneliness were found to increase organizational cynicism.

Why is it important?

Abusive supervision negatively affects the behavior and performance of employees in organizations and the outcomes of the organization. Hierarchical organizational structures often lead to an authoritarian management style, which can lead to psychological attacks, It creates a suitable environment. In addition, a hierarchical organizational structure creates a favorable environment for the person who commits a psychological attack to hide himself. Abusive management reduces employee job and life satisfaction and increases emotional exhaustion. In the study findings, positive correlations were found between abusive management workplace loneliness and organizational cynicism sub-dimensions. The cynicism of abusive management has a positive impact and increases emotional loneliness.Abusive management did not affect social loneliness, but increased emotional loneliness.

Perspectives

Individuals experience emotional loneliness mostly within themselves. Therefore, it is more difficult to replace this loneliness. In particular, abusive behavior by the manager may indicate that employees are seeking the close and intimate relationships they had with their previous managers or co-workers. The absence or absence of these relationships can cause employees to become emotionally isolated. For this reason, it can be said that employees expect closer, sincere, fair relationships from their managers, where employees' opinions are taken into account and human resources are given importance. According to the results, abusive management has a social the fact that it has no effect on loneliness (friendship) may cause employees to feel relieved in terms of social friendship by sharing these management perceptions with other employees due to exploitative management practices. Perceptions of abusive management may be perceived as a common problem by some organizational members. Applying the same abusive manager behaviors to some employees may create cooperation among employees. Therefore, it can be said that abusive management does not affect social loneliness.
