What is it about?
The urinary anion gap is a frequent calculation made using urine electrolyte values in order to differentiate causes of hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis. In this opinion piece we review the subject in detail and conclude this calculation is based on wrong assumptions and does not add much to the clinical care of patients.
