What is it about?
Cholesterol-lowering drugs are used frequently in the general population, because of the excellent benefit-risk ratio. However, in hemodialysis patients, the benefits are moot. This publication offers a series of explanations for these counterintuitive findings. Furthermore, recent preliminary evidence suggests that statins may even cause harm in the dialysis population, by increasing progression of vascular calcifications.
