What is it about?
We characterized the individual-level risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression in the US. We found at least 8.42 million adults had high progression risk. Among them, over 1 million do not have CKD, 3.73 million have eGFR>=60 mL/min/1.73m2 and had CKD based on albuminuria alone, while 3.64 million have eGFR<60. Our study highlights the need to consider an individual's absolute risk of kidney disease progression in the diagnosis and prognostication of CKD.
