Gene therapy has been successfully applied in several organ systems to date, but not to the kidney. I explain how our pre-clinical work in a mouse model has led to successful targeting of the podocyte cell and rescue of a genetic disease _x000D_ This is now proceeding to the translation of this work first to large animal models for testing and toxicity, and imminently to first in human clinical trials,
