What is it about?

This paper look into the perspective of solar energy with a specific reference to the energy generation from the solar panel installed on the rooftop of residential buildings. It further explore the case of India, and discuss some of the key initiative and policies adopted by the government of India which encourage the rooftop solar energy generation.

Why is it important?

The conventional energy resources which includes oil, gas and coal are considered as nonrenewable and sustainable. The other aspect of the conventional energy is, it produce greenhouse gases which impact on the natural environment and cause global warming. Thus there is a great need to moves from conventional energy resources towards renewable and sustainable energy. Solar energy is one of the form of renewable energy which is also regarded as a clean form of energy. If the idea discussed in this article would be adopted, then it is possible that residential buildings will not only be used generate the energy for its own use but also the additional energy can be sold to the government and can be be used for other purposes.

Perspectives

It was a great opportunity for me to look into the initiatives and policies of Indian government and to understand how they are promoting the concept of rooftop solar energy generation. While there is a great work ahead in this regard, however the concept can be adopted by other countries which faces energy crises. The encourage the people to adopt this concept, the cost of solar panel can be subsidies simply reducing subsidy of current electricity cost.
