What is it about?
Measuring the 'quality' or 'impact; of scholarly journals is much debated – with no metric more debated that the Journal Impact Factor. This article, while not discounting the value of impact factors, argues for context and using a range of diversified measures.

Why is it important?
Publishers, their journals, and researchers all have an interest in publication quality and impact. Understanding the underpinning methodology of indicators and an appreciation of a more holistic approach to measures of 'quality' helps prevent over-reliance on single measures, misapplication of those measures, and may lead to a more robust evaluation methodology.
Perspectives
As an employee of Clarivate Analytics, the producers of the Impact Factor, I'm keen to expand on the range of citation (and other) indicators available and encourage wider usage and adoption among the publishing and academic communities.
