What is it about?
Does foreign aid extended by one country improve that country’s image among populations of recipient countries? Our research examines the United States aid program for HIV/AIDS and shows that the program substantially improved perceptions of the U.S. abroad.

Why is it important?
Our finding implies that in addition to its potential humanitarian benefits, foreign aid that is targeted, sustained, effective, and visible can foster strong positive perceptions among foreign publics. By doing good, a country can do well.
