What is it about?
The main objective of this work is to study the microstructural evolution and mechanical behavior of austenitic Fe–30Mn–7Al–1C and duplex Fe–12Mn–7Al–1C LD steels microalloyed with V under aging heat treatment.

Why is it important?
Results indicate that under the aging condition mechanical properties increase notoriously due to the formation of modular κ-carbide structures within austenite grains. The duplex LD steel showed the highest strength and microhardness values (1070 MPa and 405 HV), while the austenitic LD steel showed the highest elongation (up to 50%). In general, V addition to LD steels generated a slight decrease in strength since it delays the κ-phase precipitation.
