What is it about?

Different simulation approaches suitable to describe phenomena occurring among the phases, grains, and subgrains in metallic microstructures are shortly presented. Emphasis is laid on multi-physical models that are of special interest for industrial application. A personal outlook on future trends is additionally given.

Why is it important?

Continuum modeling approaches are the only simulation approaches that are routinely used for time and length scales relevant to engineering applications.

Perspectives

This is a prospective article, including forecast on the future development of continuum modeling. Let's see how true my personal outlook is.
