What is it about?
We analyzed the alteration of the sand rocks of the deep liquid nuclear wastes disposal. Some of the mineral phases have no changings while Fe-containing minerals and clay minerals have been altered and have formed secondary phases. The behavior of some radionuclides including plutonium is sensitive to the presence of Fe oxides - oxyhydroxides.

Why is it important?
The characterization of solid phases of the disposal of liquid nuclear wastes is very important for understanding the immobilization/spreading processes of long-living alpha-emitting actinides in the reservoir bed of the disposal.
