What is it about?
Steroids are used in many chronic conditions, but they can be associated with significant side-effects such as weakening of the bones and growth failure. The exact reasons behind these problems are unclear and so it is important that animal models are developed to help us better understand the mechanism. There is currently no established animal model and so we will review the literature and summarise the models available and their associated pros and cons.
