What is it about?

This manuscript shows the importance of cholesterol and molecules derived from cholesterol biosynthesis in the insulin secretion process.

Why is it important?

In our work we used simvastatin, widely used drug for the reduction of plasmatic cholesterol levels. However, our results shown the negative effects that cholesterol and its intermediates reduction have for pancreatic beta cell physiology and consequently glycemic control.

Perspectives

This work offers new insights about the involvement of cholesterol and its biosynthesis in the pancreatic beta cell physiology.
