What is it about?
Design and maintenance of pavements require proper estimation of the mechanical responses of the different layers due to anticipated traffic loading. This article presents the successful simulations of the responses of four pavement test sections due to heavy vehicle loading (90 tons), verified by real measurements.

Why is it important?
Longer and heavier vehicles (LHVs) benefit the economy and the environment by reducing fuel consumption and the costs of road freight transport. Thus, the current trend is to introduce more LHVs into the road traffic. However, the existing roads need to be investigated and strengthened to cope up with the heavier loading. New roads should as well be designed accordingly. For this, proper estimation of the responses of the pavement layers is of utmost importance. In this article, successful simulations of pavement responses under a 90 tons LHV have been presented.
