What is it about?

This paper describes the calibration of the Whatman No. 42 filter paper in the low suction range (<10 kPa). The capillary rise method was found to be useful to give the water retention of the filter paper from 0.1 to 1.6 kPa revealing that maximum water content of the filter paper is about 135% and the lowest possible suction measurable is about 1 kPa. The capillary rise method is useful to provide the water content of the filter paper at 1 kPa to supplement the other calibration methods (suction >10 kPa) in establishing the filter paper calibration curve.
