What is it about?
This study is about comfort properties of unsewn and sewn fabrics treated with different water repellents for outdoor sports activities. . Fluorocarbons containing six and eight carbons were applied to fabrics, followed by sewing these fabrics using polyester-cotton corespun and polyamide sewing threads, with or without water repellent finishing. Then, bending rigidity, thermal properties, water vapor, and air permeability of these fabrics were investigated.

Why is it important?
Other studies related to comfort properties of sewn fabrics in the literature focused on seam parameters such as stitch type, stitch density, seam allowance, and seam angles. The originality of our study is to investigate effects of different water repellents on comfort properties of fabrics sewn with unfinished and water repellent finished sewing threads. In this way, all parts of a garment (fabric properties, sewing thread, finish, etc.) are considered as a whole.
