What is it about?
The article presents an apparatus and methodology for friction measurement of particle-continuum/manufactured interfaces. The apparatus helps determine the friction coefficients (sliding and rolling) of particle-continuum materials interfaces under different conditions suitable to geotechnical engineering.

Why is it important?
This apparatus and method facilitate to determine some fundamental yet critical inputs needed to understand the complex contact behavior of geomaterials and to improvise the numerical simulations to design geotechnical engineering structures accurately. The device can also be used in several other engineering areas dealing with particulate-continuum materials interfaces such as processing, mining, pharmaceuticals, and food industries.
