What is it about?

We evaluated the use of waste plastic to be used into asphalt pavement. We performed rheological tests in the laboratory on asphalt binders modified with plastics and assessed the material's response. We noticed a complex behavior with diverse trends.

Why is it important?

This research work is the first large interlaboratory attempt to study the use of plastics for asphalt paving materials. It demonstrates that there is no unique behavior of the plastic-modified binder prompting the need for further research.

Perspectives

This paper provided an excellent opportunity for international cooperation with several top institutes, universities, and colleagues under the umbrella of RILEM.
