What is it about?

The paper is about multinuclear complexes whose metal atoms might interact magnetically and electronically.

Why is it important?

A new anionic tetranuclear copper complex with pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylate ligands with dimethylammonium cations as counterions was synthesized and characterized. Dimethylammonium cations are located in the voids between the columns participating in N–H···O hydrogen bonds. Cyclic voltammetric studies indicate that the complex exhibits a metal-centered and diffusion-controlled one-electron reduction process.

Perspectives

Particular interest in pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylate ligand has been raised because of its capacity to keep two metal ions in close proximity and to offer additional coordination sites through its carboxylate moieties. New complexes or metal clusters may be prepared using this ligand for magnetic and electronic applications.
