Why is it important?
Typological interference has often only been mentioned as an influence of topicalization frequency in Asian Englishes, but never been analysed systematically. This paper gives a first idea of how so-called 'topic-prominence' may lead to an increased frequency of topicalization in certain Asian Englishes and, in doing so, also provides a framework for further systematic analyses in this direction.
