Why is it important?

Catalysis is an area of chemistry that enables conversion of simple compounds into complex molecules of enormous practical utility. This area has transformed—and will continue to transform—products and pro-cesses in diverse sectors (e.g. life-science and fine-chemical) with significant financial and societal impact.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as we have provided a simple, but comprehensive, view to all the catalytic systems developed up to date for a number of pivotal transformations or organic compounds.
