What is it about?
A combined use of light energy and metal-loaded semiconductors is very useful for generating electrons and active hydrogen atoms from alcohols at room temperature. Electrons and hydrogen atoms were used for hydrogenolysis of C–OH bonds (sigma bond metathesis of C–OH bonds) of allylic alcohols.

Why is it important?
We could synthesize important platform and fine chemicals very easily from renewable carbon resources in a green and energy-saving manners without forming salt-waste byproducts.
