What is it about?

Austenitic Stainless Steel can be corroded easily when they are heat treated in a range of temperatures due to sensitization. Using Chronoamperometry in chloride solution, we developed a rapid measurement method for Stainless steel's sensitization.

Why is it important?

Using this method, one can know the structural change of stainless steels by heating with low cast rapidly. Usually, the sample would be cut, prepared and served to various analytical methods using expensive apparatuses with X-ray diffraction methods. various electron microscopy etc. But this electrochemical method is not so expensive and samples could be measured simply and rapidly.

Perspectives

The study is in a series of rapid electrochemical evaluation method for phase transformation of metallic materials. I believe this would lead to the new apparatus to detect the phase transformation by heating in an electrochemical method rapidly for stainless steels.
