What is it about?
Measurement of the heart specific protein troponin is an essential tool for the diagnosis of heart attack. New methods allow measurement of very low levels of troponin. Algorithms based on these measurements that will rapidly confirm or exclude a heart attack on admission to hospital or within 1 to 2 hours of admission have been developed. It is now possible to measure troponin at the bedside rather than in a laboratory. This method is much faster. We have therefore prepared some guidance on the best way that studies of this new technology may be performed.
