What is it about?
Enzymatic methods are analytically superior as compared to the traditional Jaffe method. Plasma proteins and glucose are known to interfere with Jaffe assays. Despite their analytical superiority, enzymatic creatinine methods do not warrant a reliable estimation of kidney function in severely ill patients. As an alternative, mathematical corrections of creatinine results or clearance of exogenous substances should be considered for estimating kidney function in severely ill patients.
