What is it about?

Changes in laboratory test results are observed when monitoring the same, healthy individual over time. This variation is not caused by disease, but by natural biological processes in the body. Biological variation estimates have many different applications in laboratory medicine, but there is concern that some of the estimates in use today may be irrelevant or of unacceptable quality. In this review, we outline recent initiatives that aim to provide updated and easily accessible high-quality biological variation estimates.
