What is it about?

For linear, time-invariant, discrete-time and stable controlled systems, the paper describes how two known state space windup avoidance methods can be combined in such a way that for all PI state controllers, plant and controller windup are prevented, provided that these controllers are stable if the actuators are not saturated.

Why is it important?

The presented combination procedureonly requires the inclusion of an already existing P state controller for the respective controlled system, which avoids plant windup. The provision of a criterion that is as simple as possible and yet not too restrictive to check whether a P-state controller has this property is also a concern of the article.

Perspectives

The presented method facilitates the finding of stable controller structures and parameters in the presence of manipulated variable limitations.
