What is it about?
The paper shows that the stability of a special class of PI state controllers is guaranteed if the corresponding P state controller is stable and if specific anti wind-up measures are performed. The conclusions are also valid for state controllers complemented by observers.

Why is it important?
The published result considerably facilitates the stability proof for PI state controllers with constraints. For a special class of controllers, it is no longer necessary to include the integral-action component of the controller into the stability proof.
Perspectives
The stability proof of controllers with constraints is a question which keeps myself occupied a long time, particularly as those problems are important in the field of electrical drives, where I am strongly involved. The results are extremely helpful, but there are still a lot of open-ended questions like multiple active constraints in cascaded controllers.
