conjugation markers are more or less frozen morphemes in verbal inflection, not unlike vocalic theme markers in Spanish (-a-, -e-, -i-). Dixon's reconstructions of Proto-PN conjugation markers find cognate matches in non-PN languages of eastern Arnhem Land.
