What is it about?
Critical edition with translation and commentary on a late-Latin poem written in Gaul at some point during the first decade if the fifth century CE. The poem is a dialogue of 110 hexameters between three characters, one of them has been forced to abandon his own country invaded by the enemy.

Why is it important?
This text is one of the early examples in late Latin literature of a unique blend of pastoral and satire. The dialogue is structured on the literary model of Vergil’s first eclogue and Juvenal’ social satire.
Perspectives
The Epigramma Paulini offers an emotional response to a world torn by wars. Its message, however, is not totally bleak as it contains glimpses of hope and the possibility of resurgence.
