What is it about?

Due to increasing environmental regulations in the maritime industry, more shipping companies need to upgrade their vessels with technologies that reduce air pollution emissions or decrease energy consumption. But how do suppliers and innovators develop a service package to answer this growing demand? A challenge of these projects is that several supplying firms need to collaborate in one way or another; knowledge exchange between firms becomes a must. However, little research has been carried out to analyze this issue in the context of small ferries retrofit. To shed light on this problem, in this article the authors investigate how innovation intermediaries can facilitate inter-firm collaborations with the purpose of retrofitting vessels with green technologies. The authors present a case study of a retrofit initiative in Northern Denmark.
