What is it about?
This article analyses how two graphic novels convey the feeling of cultural displacement through their intentions, research methods and visual language. The two graphic novels discussed are Shaun Tan’s The Arrival and a student work by Margarita Louka, Foreign. This article will be accompanied by a discussion in the wider discourses surrounding migration, so that the graphic novels can be correctly contextualized.

Why is it important?
More and more people migrate because of international conflicts or simply because of the interconnected world we live in; therefore, the politics of migration are quickly becoming more relevant. This article shows how graphic novels are a valuable tool in illustrative storytelling, and can be used to exemplify the experience of migrants.
Perspectives
This article was a joy to write as it is a subject very personal to me. Ultimately, I hope that by reading the article more people would contemplate the potentials of using graphic novels and comics as a tool for social commentary.
