What is it about?

This article is about the difficulty of writing during the COVID-19 pandemic. It follows the author's search for inspiration in the work of literary scholar and cultural critic Lauren Berlant. Ultimately, the article uses this approach to argue for the importance of work that often goes unnoticed in ordinary life and academia.

Why is it important?

This article brings to the surface forms of time that are often uncelebrated, but are crucial to everyday life, by exploring the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of Berlant's thought. These include fragmentation, repetition, and ongoingness. It argues for the need to recognise the dual experience of the academic and domestic in the practice of writing.

Perspectives

This article is written from a feminist perspective and I hope it encourages others to see the importance of domestic practices of care within their writing practices.
