What is it about?

This study sought to determine the impact of alternative strategies for assessing eligibility for domiciliary oxygen on funded oxygen use, cost, and quality of life.

Why is it important?

Our findings showed that after a reassessment of applicants after several months of initial domiciliary oxygen therapy, a large portion of initially eligible patients were no longer eligible. Thus, based on our findings, we suggest reducing program costs to the public funders without adverse effects on quality of life, mortality, or other resource use.
