What is it about?

We identified a biomarker that is suitable for reliable check sample quality regardless of whether there is knowledge of the pre-analytical collection and processing procedures of whole blood. This novel quality assessment step enables scientists to uncover common pre-analytical errors, allowing for identification of serum and plasma samples that should be excluded from certain investigations or storage in biobanks.

Why is it important?

It is highly worthwhile to apply a reliable strategy to assess the quality of serum and plasma samples (beyond checking for hemolysis, icterus, and lipemia) prior to their storage or use.
