What is it about?

This general interest article describes how molllusks (those animals that make the seahells you find on the beach) have contributed to medicine and the treatment of patients with chronic pain. The article is a fun read that shows how an undergraduate summer intern went against his advisor's wishes and performed an experiment that the faculty member thought was a waste of time. Yet the results of the experiment led to the development of an FDA aproved drug.
