What is it about?
This article provides insight from people who live with with type 2 diabetes in Belize, South America. Most people we interviewed use plants to help manage their blood glucose levels and their symptoms. They use plants in combination with medications, but they often do not feel comfortable telling their doctors.

Why is it important?
Local plants are typically more available and accessible than medications in this country due to economic barriers, and this was especially true during COVID-19 border and port closures. We can learn about the medicinal effects of these plants with more research. We can help people by building bridges between informal medicine systems and formal health care services.
