What is it about?
Although the combination of embryo morphology assessment and preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) cannot fully guarantee a successful pregnancy, embryo transcriptome analysis can help to fill the gaps in embryo assessment. We have identified differentially expressed genes common to human blastocyst developmental potential, maternal age, and embryo morphology.

Why is it important?
In this study, blastocysts were classified by developmental potential, maternal age and morphological evaluation for transcriptome analysis, and it is noteworthy that developmental potential was highly correlated with pregnancy rate. Furthermore, the isolation of inner cell mass and trophectoderm from a single blastocyst and their individual gene expression and karyotyping analyses were the distinguishing features of this study.
