What is it about?
Land environments are challenging for fish. We found unique behaviours by amphibious gobies which occur only on mudflat: 1) migration to water after terrestrial eating, 2) rolling over on the back, and 3) the fin movements. We have shown that these behaviours are important for their maintenance of water metabolism.

Why is it important?
Evolutionarily, aquatic fish invaded onto land repeatedly, leading to occurrence of terapods. However, transition of behavioural/physiological adaptation remains unclear. Our findings clarify a type of terrestial adaptation by amphibious gobies, which retain the morphological characteristics of aquatic fish.
Perspectives
I hope this article makes people interested in unique behaviours of animals in aquarium and fields. This study is also stemmed from field observation on mudflat in Tokyo. In terms of basic biology, I assume that behaviours seem to be one of the most important "drive" to animal's evolution, as well as its "result".
